ERKHII MERGEN STORYBOOK

How can graphic design rekindle the magic of Mongolian folk tales, captivating young minds through storytelling?

This project delves into the rich culture of Mongolia and its folk tales, bringing traditional storytelling and modern graphic design together. It brings to life the famous adventures of “Erkhii Mergen.” A celebrated and famous folk tale that has been told orally throughout generations in Mongolia.

My grandparents told this story to my parents, and my parents told them to me and my brothers. Through this project, I wish to share this story with the younger generation.

Bridging the past and the present together through creating a modern picture storybook on this traditional folk tale that has been told for many generations in Mongolia. All while keeping nostalgic elements within it through the book binding, carefully considered typefaces, colour palette and page layout, making it affordable with a handmade and homely feel.
Why a storybook?

Illustrated storybooks breathe life into these timeless tales, preserving authenticity while making them understandable and informative for children. Therefore, I chose to create the illustrated storybook of Erkhii Mergen.
